5-year-old honored for 911 call to help mom

SOUTH PORTLAND – A 5-year-old boy who made a 911 call after his mother had a seizure is being honored by the South Portland Fire Department as a hero.

Mason Mullen called 911 when Chrystin Mullen passed out and had a seizure. The young boy was calm and told the dispatcher what happened and where he lived. He then watched his baby brother and sister until help arrived.

Chrystin Mullen says her son knew about 911, but she never guessed he would know how to dial it. She hopes other parents teach their kids about 911.

The South Portland Fire Department awarded Mason a certificate and trophy for his heroic act.
