Two star shows at UM

ORONO – The Maynard F. Jordan Planetarium at the University of Maine offers two planetary star shows for family audiences in March. “Ring World OD” reveals some of Saturn’s most intriguing secrets at 7 p.m. Saturdays. And, in “Destination Pluto,” visitors travel past each colorful world of the solar system to reach the far off Dwarf Planet, Pluto, shown at 2 p.m. Sundays.

“Ring World OD” tours the solar system’s most elegant planet with panoramic views from the planetarium’s new Omnidome system. Visitors will travel with the Cassini probe that has been sailing among Saturn’s rings and moons for four years to explore the stunning planet’s family. This program includes the more recent views and dramatic sights imaged by Cassini.

The show “Destination Pluto” is one of the most popular programs for elementary space travelers. The strange landscapes of other worlds in our solar system look large as our space ship swings past each planet. Flight crew members tell the story of discovering planets and the unusual nature of little Pluto.

All showings are about an hour long. Admission is $3 and seating is limited, so reservations are highly recommended. For more information and reservations, call 581-1341 or visit www.galaxymaine.com.
