GUILFORD – A local man with ties to Guilford and Sangerville has published a book that recalls in images the history of the neighboring communities.
“Images of America: Guilford and Sangerville,” Sieferd C. Schultz’s second book on area history, takes older residents down memory lane and younger residents on a trip back in time.
“These were two of the prettiest little towns you could ever hope to see,” Schultz, 73, recalled Thursday. “People do not realize just how beautiful these towns were.” Born in Guilford, Schultz was 9 when his family moved to Sangerville. After his military career, Schultz lived in Massachusetts before returning to Guilford in 1989.
A member of the Guilford and Sangerville historical societies, Schultz said his efforts were twofold: to record as many vintage photographs in the book as possible to preserve the rich history and to raise funds for both organizations.
The entire proceeds of the sale of the $19.99 books, published by Arcadia Publishing, will be donated to the two historical societies. A total of 1,200 books have been printed.
The books will be available for sale in mid-March. Advance reservations may be made by calling 876-4501 or 876-4546.
