Pittsfield man to serve 9 years for Newburgh home invasion

BANGOR – A Pittsfield man was sentenced Monday in Penobscot County Superior Court to nine years in prison for his part in a November 2006 armed home invasion in Newburgh.

Mark J. Harris, 33, was one of three men charged with Class A robbery in connection with the incident. The three broke into a North Road home, displayed their weapons and fled with an undisclosed amount of money and some items belonging to family members who were home at the time.

He faced up to 30 years in prison.

Dustin Hodgdon, 22, also known as Dustin McGregor, of Hartland previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in prison with all but 10 years suspended and four years of probation for his part in the robbery.

Hodgdon was arrested in December by the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department and charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of assault in connection with the Newburgh incident.

Michael Randall Ely, 23, of Plymouth also was charged in the break-in. In addition, he was indicted in July by a federal grand jury for burglary and theft at the Etna post office on Route 2.

He pleaded guilty in November to charges in connection with the post office break-in.

Ely is scheduled to be sentenced March 3 in U.S. District Court. He faces up to five years in federal prison.

Ely is not expected to be sentenced on the state charges until he has been sentenced in federal court.
