Cornville
The Cornville annual town meeting is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at the town hall, and the polls will be open for local voting from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29.
As in most communities, Cornville officials are seeking to appropriate more money to maintain winter roads and upgrade road conditions. The selectmen are asking for $145,000 for winter roads, a 50 percent increase over the 2007 original budget, but the same figure that voters appropriated when they approved an additional $45,000 at a special town meeting later in 2007.
“Every town is in the same situation,” Selectman Mel Blaisdell said.
The selectmen said that the $500,000 municipal budget should not increase local property taxes.
Ripley
The annual town meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at the Ripley Grange Hall.
The budget, according to Town Clerk Vinal Sinclair, is up from last year’s $232,000.
Sinclair said the change could jump from $11.45 per $1,000 of valuation to as much as $14 per $1,000 after school payments and road improvements are figured in.
Voting will take place by written ballot during Saturday’s gathering.
