TOWN MEETINGS

Town meetings

Swanville

In an unusual occurrence, all three seats on the Board of Selectmen will be up for grabs at the annual town meeting, and the races for two of those seats are contested.

Incumbent Selectman Brian Thompson is running for re-election for a three-year term.

Seats held by incumbents Richard Marsden and Brett Armstrong are also open this year as both men resigned before completing their terms. Both men cited the need to concentrate on their families and personal affairs for their inability to complete their terms.

Running for the final two years of Armstrong’s term are Robert Bernosky and Rebecca E. Reynolds. Running for the final year of Marsden’s term are Mary Lou Cook and Robert Warren.

Also on the ballot are town clerk and excise tax collector Helen M. Christianson, who is running unopposed, and treasurer and real estate tax collector Peter J. Kerrigan, also unopposed. Voting will take place at the town office 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday, March 10.

Budget and warrant articles will be acted on when the town meeting reconvenes at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at the town office.

Major expenditures include: $194,426 for plowing snow and sanding, $80,000 for road maintenance, $97,313 for solid waste, $12,000 for fire protection, $54,725 for administration, $10,000 for legal services and $122,508 for debt service on the municipal bond for road improvements. Residents also will be asked to consider the installation of a flashing stop light at the four-way intersection of Oak Hill Road and Route 141, the location of a number of serious accidents in recent years.
