Forum on guardianship decisions slated

BANGOR – School to Life: Transition Planning forums will present the sixth of eight workshops 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Alpha One, 1048 Union St.

“Introduction to Guardianship and Special Needs Trust” will be presented by Nathaniel S. Putnam of Eaton Peabody.

The workshop is being sponsored by the Maine Transition Network-Committee on Transition, funded through the Maine Department of Education.

“The decision about guardianship for students turning 18 years old is one of the most difficult transition issues that parents have to make,” said Cindy Tuck, coordinator of the School to Life Programs in Region 3 of the Maine Transition Network.

“That’s why coming to a forum such as this to get as much information as you can as early as you can is an important first step,” she said.

“Of all of our monthly transition forums, this is always well attended due to urgency of the topic. Mr. Putnam does a very nice job of explaining a somewhat complicated and sensitive subject,” Tuck said.

The forum is free and open to the public, but preregistration allows for an adequate supply of materials to be available. Register by calling 992-2270 or e-mailing the program at schooltolife@midmaine.com.
