PORTLAND – Jon Roy scored his 24th, 25th and 26th goals of the season and added an assist and Cam Poussard made 32 saves Wednesday night as the Lewiston High School Blue Devils beat Waterville 5-2 in the Eastern Maine Class A hockey championship game at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Top seed Lewiston, 19-3-1 and winner of five straight, plays undefeated Biddeford (23-0), a 2-1 overtime winner over Kennebunk in Wednesday’s Western Maine final, in Saturday’s 6 p.m. championship game at The Colisee in Lewiston.
Third seed Waterville finished up at 14-8-1 with three of those losses coming at the hands of the Blue Devils.
Roy broke a scoreless deadlock 6:54 into the second period and made it 2-0 1:13 later.
Zach Jochem cut the lead in half with his 12th goal 1:20 into the third period but Roy answered 3:09 later and Jordan Bourgoin extended the lead 4:25 later with his 16th goal.
Jochem pulled the Panthers within 4-2 with 2:51 remaining but Matt Letourneau added an insurance goal with 1:41 left.
Robbie Leeman had three assists for the Blue Devils with Bourgoin, Casey Poussard and Sam Cloutier adding one apiece.
Eric Aldrich, Ian Rowe, Shawn Lee and Brock LeClair had assists for Waterville and Nolan MacDonnell finished with 22 stops.
