EM Sportsman’s Show

ORONO – Jay Munson, president of the Penobscot County Conservation Association, is gearing up the 70th annual Eastern Maine Sportsman’s Show, a major fundraiser for the association. The show is scheduled 5-9 p.m. Friday, March 14; 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, March 15; and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at the University of Maine Field House and Gym.

The event will include more than 150 exhibits of outdoor and outdoor-related items, displays, hands-on activities and demonstrations. The family show offers many booths set up with special appeal for children.

Money raised at the event allows the association to award more than 40 scholarships to students who are enrolled in a variety of wildlife and outdoor programs at the University of Maine and Unity College.

The association also spends on average $20,000 annually on summer conservation camp scholarships for area youth to attend Greenland Point or Bryant Pond camps. These donations allow young people who might not otherwise have the opportunity a chance to experience a vast array of what the outdoors has to offer.

Some of the other organizations the association helps support are Atlantic Salmon Federation, Basin Mills Dam Coalition, Maine Forest & Logging Museum, Maine Non-Game Fund, Ruffed Grouse Society, Nature Conservancy, SAM, NRA, University of Maine Wildlife Projects, Ducks Unlimited and Trout Unlimited.
