The top swimmers in the state in all age groups will compete over the next four days in Maine Swimming Inc.’s Winter Combined Championships at the University of Maine in Orono.
The meet will start Thursday afternoon with the ages 13-14 and senior 200-yard medley relay and starting at 4:30 at UMaine’s Wallace Pool. Those age groups will also compete in the 500 and 1,650 freestyle events.
The championships continue Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The meet is open to USA Swimming-affiliated competitors who have qualified based on cutoff times.
The morning sessions will start at 8:30. Evening sessions begin Friday and Saturday at 5 and Sunday at 4:30.
The top 16 finishers in each event score in the meet.
The 10-and-under age groups will swim timed finals. The 13-14 and senior age groups will swim trials and finals. The exceptions are the 400 individual medley and 500 free, which will have one heat regardless of the number of entries, and the 1,000 and 1,650 free, which are all timed finals.
Parking will not be allowed near Alfond Arena or the fieldhouse Friday and Saturday nights due to University of Maine hockey games which are scheduled for those nights. Parking will be available near the Maine Center for the Arts and there will be shuttle buses to take spectators to the pool.
Admission is $2 per session.
