Jackson Lab ranks high on best-workplace list

BAR HARBOR – A national life sciences magazine has named The Jackson Laboratory one of the best places in the country to work for postdoctoral associates.

In its March issue, The Scientist ranked Jackson Lab ninth among U.S. research institutions, the lab indicated Wednesday in a prepared release.

The survey, to which more than 2,400 American postdoctoral associates responded, measured a wide range of factors, including quality of training, funding and personal life, among other things. Jackson Lab President and CEO Rick Woychik told the magazine that interdepartmental cooperation at the lab helps to facilitate interaction among the postdoctoral associates. The lab’s scientific services help the associates focus on their research projects instead of spending all their time setting up and operating scientific instruments, Woychik said.

High marks were given to the access to training, travel and research grants provided by the lab and to the staff who manage the lab’s postdoctoral program. More information is available at the magazine’s Web site, www.the-scientist.com.
