A proposed $1 million municipal budget that reflects an increase of $900 from taxation will be forwarded Monday to residents for adoption.

The annual town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. March 17 at Piscataquis Community Middle School.

The 26 articles on the warrant include the election of two SAD 4 directors for three-year terms and another for a one-year position. Patti Davis resigned from the board earlier this year, leaving a three-year term. Ralph Eastman, whose term expires this month, has announced he is not seeking re-election, and Pam Goulette, who has one year left on her term, has submitted her resignation.

Town Manager Tom Goulette said town officials have proposed using $293,000 from surplus to help offset municipal expenditures. That move will leave about $125,000 in surplus. In addition, the town retired its debt last year, which will help offset the rising cost of insurance and energy this year, he said.

Town officials have proposed $70,000 for paving, up from $35,000 last year, in an effort to improve the town’s road network.

School costs, which are not yet known, as well as the county tax, which decreased this year, will be factored into the budget later in the year.

The proposed municipal budget does not exceed the tax cap, according to Goulette.
