The Winslow High School Black Raiders and Lewiston High School’s Blue Devils will try to annex state hockey championships at The Colisee in Lewiston today.
The 16-5-1 Black Raiders will face 17-4-1 York in the state Class B game at 1 p.m. with the Class A title game between 19-3-1 Lewiston and 23-0 Biddeford scheduled at 6.
Winslow’s state-title run has featured strong third periods in which it has outscored its opponents 3-0. Winslow used two third-period goals to beat Houlton-Hodgdon 4-2 and received a tying goal with 41 seconds left in regulation from Ben Grant in the final against Gardiner before Jesse Cullivan won it in overtime 5-4.
The Raiders feature Grant, Sean Bourgeois, Cullivan, Jeff LaFrance and Chad Guptil up front with Matt Loubier on defense. Bourgeois, Grant and Cullivan each have two playoff goals and Loubier has four assists. Jesse Little has manned the pipes, making 27 saves in the two games. York, playing in its first state championship game, has been led by Kevin Maran, Andy Ohlson, Dan Powers and David Figlioli along with goalie Andrew Loane.
Lewiston features Jon Roy (26 goals, 23 assists), who had a hat trick in the 5-2 Eastern Maine B title game win over Waterville, along with Jordan Bourgoin (16 & 32), Casey Poussard (27 & 18) and Robbie Leeman (21 & 20). Jake Brown has headlined the defense in front of goalie Cam Poussard (12-3-1, 1.44 goals-against average, .937 save percentage).
Biddeford has been paced by Nick Reny (33 & 25), defenseman Brian Dumoulin (12 & 45), Cam Madore (21 & 19) and Shawn Grover (19 & 18) along with goalie Tony Dube (17-0, 1.00, .956).
