MACHIAS – A Washington County Superior Court jury last week found a 53-year-old Lubec man guilty of multiple drug charges.
Toby L. Wilcox, who was indicted by the Washington County grand jury last year, was found guilty Thursday of unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs, unlawful furnishing of scheduled drugs and two counts of felony possession of scheduled drugs.
The two-day trial was presided over by Justice Kevin Cuddy. The case went to the jury late Thursday, and they returned 20 minutes later with guilty verdicts, according to Assistant District Attorney Joelle Pratt.
“The jury also convicted him of four misdemeanor drug possession counts, which the judge dismissed after the jury conviction came back,” Pratt said.
Wilcox is expected to be sentenced later this year. He could get up to 10 years on the felony convictions.
The state requested that Wilcox be held without bail and the judge granted that request.
Donald Brown of Brewer represented Wilcox.
On Sept. 7, 2006, officers from the Maine State Police and Washington County Sheriff’s Department, armed with a search warrant, went to a residence on the Lead Mine Road in Lubec.
“They had probable cause to search the residence for contraband, mainly drugs,” Pratt said Saturday.
Police confiscated numerous drugs including oxycodone, hydrocodone, Suboxone, oxaprozin, venlaxafine, alprazolam, trazodone and chlorzoxozone.
Police also found $273 and several guns, including a Smith & Wesson .22-caliber handgun, a Browning .22-caliber handgun, a Beretta .22-caliber handgun, a Winchester .351-caliber rifle, a Savage .30-30 rifle, a Remington 12-gauge shotgun, a Browning .270-caliber rifle, a Springfield 20-gauge shotgun, a Winchester .300-caliber rifle, a Sears .22-caliber model 41 rifle with no serial number, and a Winchester 12-gauge single-shot shotgun.
