Bangor police charged a Belmont woman with making a false police report in connection with an incident Monday at the Wal-Mart store on Springer Drive.
Because she also was in violation of release conditions from a previous conviction, Darcie Kirk, 34, was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail.
According to a police report, when Officer Larry Morrill arrived at Wal-Mart to investigate the reported theft of Kirk’s purse, he was flagged down by a theft-prevention worker who said he earlier had seen Kirk take some store jewelry into the women’s restroom. When she came out, she no longer was carrying the items and a check of the restroom turned up four empty packages.
When questioned by Morrill, Kirk initially denied any wrongdoing, but later admitted she had hidden four nose rings, valued at $35, under some merchandise in the store. She also admitted that her pocketbook had not been stolen.
