The only fundraiser of the year for the Ellsworth American Field Service Chapter is its annual auction, reports chapter treasurer Phyllis Young.
A preview of items begins at 9 a.m. and the auction starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at Ellsworth High School.
Hancock County District Attorney Michael Povich returns as guest auctioneer.
“He has given generously of his time each year and provides his own style of Down East humor,” Young said.
Proceeds from the auction help “support scholarships for students wanting to study abroad, and those who have come to study here in Ellsworth for a year,” she said.
Young believes this is the 15th year of the auction, which is made possible with the generous support of local merchants and friends of AFS who provide “a wide array of donations.”
The event also includes a silent auction that is expected to feature “home-baked goodies,” she wrote.
This year, Ellsworth High is hosting exchange students from Germany, Egypt and Japan who are expected to be assisting Povich during the auction.

Bette Hoxie invites you to an indoor yard sale, raffle, bake sale and silent auction 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Holy Family Parish Hall on South Brunswick Street in Old Town.
Sponsored by local foster and adoptive families and Best Buy of Bangor, the event’s proceeds will benefit Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine Inc. at 294 Center St., Old Town.

Here’s a delightful way for residents of Aroostook County to lift themselves out of their snow piles and enjoy a fresh look at life.
President Lara Cannon and members of Wintergreen Arts Center invite you to its 2nd annual Artful Egg Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at WGAC in the Aroostook Centre Mall.
Creative egg-dying and decorating glittery baskets and springtime cupcakes are some of the fun activities you will find along with children dancing the Bunny Hop, digging for golden eggs in a bounce house, taking part in an egg toss or taking chances on winning prizes at the Duck Pond.
You will also see two baby lambs and learn about coming WGAC art classes.
Proceeds will benefit construction of the Wintergreen Arts Gallery to showcase the work of local artists and promote the arts in northern Maine.

The meal includes a vegetarian alternative and homemade desserts.
The fee is $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12.
