PITTSBURGH – A Pittsburgh-area mall is getting an L.L. Bean store.
Ross Township Commissioners approved plans for the new store to be built at the Ross Park Mall just north of the city.
L.L. Bean got its start as a catalog retailer, but its fastest sales growth is coming from stores. The outdoors outfitter based in Freeport, Maine, says store sales grew 21 percent last year.
L.L. Bean opened stores last year in South Windsor, Conn., Albany, N.Y., and Mansfield, Mass. It also added two new stores in Japan, bringing the total to 15. Store openings are planned this year in the Chicago area and New York state, in addition to the one near Pittsburgh.
