BANGOR – A Bangor man broke a window early Wednesday at Doc’s Place, a convenience store at the corner of Hogan Road and Stillwater Avenue, and took nearly $3,000 in cigarettes and lottery tickets.

Police said Jay Dee Layton, 21, was caught by video surveillance equipment around 4 a.m. stealing a reported $2,857 in items from the store. He was arrested just before 8 a.m. that morning.

He was charged with Class C Burglary, which can carry a sentence of up to five years in jail and a fine of up to $5,000.

Layton was taken to Penobscot County Jail and had his first appearance in 3rd District Court in Bangor on Thursday where his bail was set at $500 cash.

He remained in jail Friday night. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
