ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Eric Morrison scored the winning run from third base on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning as Duquesne University rallied for a 4-3 baseball victory over the University of Maine Friday.

Aaron Janusey hit an RBI single to tie it in the 10th for the Dukes, who earned their first victory of the season (1-10).

Coach Steve Trimper’s Black Bear squad drops to 5-9.

Mark Ostrander scored the go-ahead run for Maine in the top of the 10th on an RBI fielder’s choice by Tony Patane.

Morrison also scored in the eighth on a Mike Carroll sacrifice fly to tie at 2-2 for Duquesne.

Morrison led the Dukes with a triple and a single and three runs scored. Janusey added three singles and two RBIs.

Danny Menendez singled twice and drove in a run for the Black Bears. Curt Smith hit two singles and Myckie Lugbauer singled and knocked in a run on an RBI groundout.

Maine starter Kevin Scanlan pitched seven strong innings, scattering one run on four hits while walking four and striking out five.

Texas 7, Maine 2

At Honolulu, the Longhorns scored twice in the first inning and five in the second before holding off the Black Bears.

After Texas (13-10-1) jumped out to a 7-0 lead, the Black Bears got one back in the fourth on Kristen Calvetti’s base running.

Calvetti reached first, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a single through the infield and scored on an error.

Ashley Waters hit her team-leading fifth homer in the seventh to complete the scoring.

Alex Souhlaris had a pair of hits for Maine (0-23). Cayleigh Moriano took the loss, but Jenna Balent threw 4 2/3 innings of sharp relief, striking out four and allowing one earned run and a walk.
