Outstanding women

The Maine Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs established the Maine Women’s Hall of Fame in 1990 to honor women who have made an outstanding contribution to improving opportunities for all Maine women, according to the University of Maine at Augusta Web site. The BPW-Maine Futurama Foundation and the University of Maine at Augusta are co-sponsors.

This year’s recipients, Karen Heck of Waterville, co-founder of Hardy Girls Healthy Women in 2000 and principal for more than 10 years in the Avalon Group, was nominated by Megan Williams and Hardy Girls Healthy Women; the late Florence Brooks Whitehouse was nominated by her great-granddaughter Anne B. Gass.

The Maine Women’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Saturday, March 15, in Jewett Hall at the University of Maine at Augusta. A silver tea will begin at 2 p.m.
