I write in response to the March 7 letter by Thomas Coleman, “Abortion images.” I was moved by one particular sentence: “Hopefully when people see the truth of how graphic it is their conscience will urge them to do something about it.”
People have seen enough truth. Abortion is legal because we saw too many dead women from botched underground procedures, too many babies born of rape and incest, too many women’s voices being suppressed, too many dreams and goals destroyed, and too many more “too manys” to count. None of these portray a pretty image, but they have urged many of us to take action and create change.
I am pro-choice. I feel a woman has the right to choose to bear a child or not. Abortion is a safe method to stop pregnancy (considering the alternative). I do not know where God draws the line, whether at conception or two weeks or 23 weeks; I’m not sure he even does. Abortion is the right of the woman whose body and life is ultimately affected.
When my son asks about these images being displayed I tell him, “The radical fanatics of the world have difficulty expressing themselves through education and knowledge and are left with irresponsible scare tactics. Peaceful education requires dedication and patience.”
Whether the woman or the man sins by aborting an unwanted pregnancy I am not sure. I know we are all children of Christ and we are all sinners who are responsible for our actions.
