Book sale, supper to benefit firefighter’s recovery

Many efforts are under way to assist with expenses related to the recovery of Lance Sanborn, a firefighter-paramedic from Bucksport who was involved in an automobile accident in February, according to information forwarded to me by Terry Grindle of the Bucksport Fire Department.

Those efforts include the offer by Andy Lacher, owner of BookStacks in Bucksport, to donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of 23 copies of “Building the Penobscot Narrows Bridge,” to Lance and his wife, Kim Sanborn.

The books may be purchased at BookStacks during regular business hours at 71 Main St.

Grindle also reminds readers that BookStacks is selling the advance tickets for the benefit Souper Supper for the Sanborns, with seating at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Miles Lane School in town.

Advance purchases are recommended so sponsors will have an accurate head count, although some tickets will be available at the door.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 4-12; free for children 3 and under and a maximum of $25 for families.

Tickets also may be obtained by sending a check payable to Bucksport Firefighters Association, c/o Marie Stubbs, 45 Turkey Path Road, Bucksport 04416.

Donations to help Lance and his wife through this difficult time can be mailed to Seaboard Federal Credit Union, c/o Lance and Kim Sanborn, P.O. Box G, Bucksport 04416. Checks should be made out to Lance and Kim Sanborn.

Kathy Hopkins is an extension educator for Somerset County, Bird explained, who “serves as a statewide resource for Maine maple syrup producers.”

The program is free and open to the public. For information, call the museum at 581-4100.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Robert E. Clukey Sr. of Bangor who was nearing his 95th birthday when he died last week.

Bob was a dear man, devoted to his wife, Leona, and his family, and is one who will be remembered for his many decades on the playing fields and golf courses of Maine, and as a committed volunteer to the organizations he so willingly served, such as the Bangor Y.

Bob will be missed but the memory of his warm smile and twinkling eyes will remain forever with those he knew and loved.
