BANGOR – Greely of Cumberland Center’s Megan McDevitt was perfect, and Messalonskee of Oakland’s Josh Gilbert did it under pressure.

Both were winners in Saturday morning’s foul-shooting championship at Husson College’s Newman Gymnasium. The competition was held before the 2008 Maine McDonald’s Senior All-Star games.

McDevitt and Gilbert were honored at the break between the girls games in the morning and afternoon boys games. Also honored were the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches’ Coach of the Year winners.

McDevitt hit all 50 of her free-throw attempts to win the girls title. The other competitors were Lawrence of Fairfield’s Megan Gilbert, Presque Isle’s Allison Dean, and Lee’s Aarika Ritchie.

On the boys’ side, Gilbert and Presque Isle’s Russ Mortland were tied at 47-for-50 after the first round. In a shootout, Gilbert sank nine of his 10 chances while Mortland missed two free throws. Bonny Eagle of Standish’s Steven Simonds and Foxcroft Academy’s Jamie Nason rounded out the boys field.

The Eastern Maine Coach of the Year boys winners were Bangor’s Roger Reed in Class A, Maranacook of Readfield’s Rob Schmidt in Class B, Ed Leeman of Calais in Class C and Central Aroostook of Mars Hill’s Tim Brewer in Class D.

The EM girls winners were Morse of Bath’s Tom Morong in Class A, Erskine of South China’s Scott Corey in Class B, Lee’s Ron Weatherbee in Class C, and Central Aroostook’s Rodney Codrey in Class D.

In Western Maine, Thornton of Saco’s Bob Davies won the Class A boys’ award. Adam Smith of Yarmouth was the Class B boys’ winner with Traip of Kittery’s Jeremy Paul and Richmond’s Paul Lancaster winning Classes C and D, respectively.
