Neuner is youngest biathlon Cup winner

OSLO, Norway – Magdalena Neuner, who participated in the 2006 junior world championships in Presque Isle, finished ninth in the season-ending mass start race Sunday and became the youngest woman to win an overall World Cup biathlon title.

The 21-year-old German finished 13 points ahead of Sandrine Bailly of France, who finished sixth in the race.

Neuner also won the mass start title. In her trip to the U.S. two years ago, Neuner won the pursuit and relay events, finished second in the sprint and seventh in the individual during the junior worlds at the Nordic Heritage Sport Center.

Ole Einar Bjorndalen, who had already clinched his fifth overall title, skipped the mass start. Bjorndalen, who competed in the 2004 World Cup in Fort Kent, also won the mass start title.
