I am writing a book about Fay Taylour, the “World’s Greatest Woman Driver,” who lived in Bangor in the mid-1960s.

Fay was born in Ireland in 1904 and made a name for herself in England in the early 1900s as a dirt-track rider, (motorbikes without brakes). In the 1930s, Fay raced cars at the famous Brooklands track in England and abroad before moving to California in 1949. In the 1950s, Fay toured America, competing in midget car and stock car races. In her heyday, Fay was compared to Amelia Earhart.

I would be delighted to hear from readers with memories of Fay Taylour. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Send to: Deborah Cherry, 33 Shuttleworth Road, Preston, Lancashire, PR1 6DB UK or e-mail deborahcherry@hotmail.co.uk.
