PORTLAND – Slugger the Sea Dog, the Portland Sea Dogs’ mascot, successfully completed a 5-kilometer marathon in 25 minutes, 30 seconds at the Bay Club Monday, coming in well under his goal of 26:20.

Slugger’s efforts raised more than $1,500 for the Two Trials fundraising campaign and the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.

Slugger and the Sea Dogs teamed up with Bay Club to assist Olympic hopeful Emily LeVan of Wiscasset in her mission to raise $52,400 for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.

LeVan started the Two Trials program after her daughter, Maddie, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and Slugger stepped in, pledging to run a 5K in under 26.2 minutes.

LeVan will compete in the women’s Olympic Marathon trials April 20 in Boston.
