Biologist to speak about Canada lynx

BLUE HILL – The Marine Environmental Research Institute’s Ocean Environment 2008 Series will present a lecture by Mark McCollough, an endangered species specialist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20.

McCollough, the lead Canada lynx biologist in the Northeast for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, will discuss the natural history and conservation status of the Canada lynx in Maine.

It is believed that, though once abundant, Canada lynx’s last stronghold in the northeast U.S. is in Maine. For the last five years, McCollough has worked on recovering the threatened cat with state environmental agencies, the University of Maine, and the forest industry.
