DEXTER – A Crockett Road resident was injured Wednesday afternoon when his snowmobile struck a ridge of frozen snow.

Roderick “Rocky” Hamilton injured his leg and hip in the 3:30 p.m. accident, according to Dexter Fire Chief Jim Gudroe. Dexter firefighters went to the scene with a rescue sled.

Hamilton was traveling across Little Lake Wassookeag when his snowmobile hit a bank of snow and the impact tossed the sled more than 50 feet into the air, according to Warden Alan Curtis of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Hamilton, who also was thrown a distance into the air, was wearing a helmet when the accident occurred which helped saved his life, Curtis said Wednesday. He was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he was still being evaluated Wednesday evening.

Hamilton’s 1996 Arctic Cat was demolished, according to Curtis.
