Winterport youth earns Eagle honor

WINTERPORT – Lt. Col. W. Scott and Karen Reynolds of Winterport held an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Sunday, March 2, at the Community Church of the Open Door in Hampden. The event celebrated their son, Zebulon Davis Reynolds, who has received Scouting’s highest honor.

An 11-year Boy Scout and member of the exclusive Order of the Arrow, Reynolds completed all requirements to achieve Eagle Scout rank as of Oct. 1, 2007, having earned 12 mandatory and 10 elective merit badges, and completed his Eagle project and final Board of Review.

Reynolds’ Eagle project benefited the Beyond Existence youth group at Community Church of the Open Door. He renovated and organized a garage space to create much-needed storage for equipment and a 12-passenger van.

Reynolds is an 18-year-old honor student and leadership mentor at Hampden Academy, where he is a member of both the National Honor Society and Tri-M (Music) Society.

A senior, he is a teacher’s assistant for beginning courses in the Hampden Academy Music Department, where he pursues his passion for music theory, composition, percussion and vocal performance in a multitude of ensembles.

Reynolds works part-time at the Maine Air National Guard Commissary, gives private instruction in percussion and music theory, and plays drums for the CCOD music worship team.

After graduating in June, he plans to study multifocus music technology and composition at California Institute for the Arts, Berklee College of Music or the Music Conservatory at Purchase College.

Eagle Scout Reynolds thanked Scoutmaster Todd Hardy and other adult leaders and fellow Scouts of Troop 234 in Winterport; his pastors at Church of the Open Door; his Hamden Academy music directors; and his parents and extended family for their unending support, in addition to the Katahdin Area Council and Boy Scouts of America for this opportunity.
