Thursday’s storm caused changes in the U.S. Alpine Championships scheduled over the weekend at Sugarloaf/USA in Carrabassett Valley.
The slalom will now open the championships today instead of the FIS downhill originally scheduled after downhill training runs were canceled Wednesday and Thursday.
“It’s not a big deal, we’re used to weather changes, especially in the East,” said Jimmy Cochran of Keene, N.H., after traveling to Sugarloaf from the World Cup finals in Bormio, Italy. “Sugarloaf has always been a great place for this event. The people are great and I see more Red Sox caps here than I do all season. It’s awesome.”
The new schedule for the championships is: Saturday, downhill training; Sunday, downhill; Monday, super G; Tuesday, men’s giant slalom; and Wednesday, women’s giant slalom.
