CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Anita Dixon banged out two triples and knocked in six runs Friday to lead the University of Southern Maine softball team to a 10-2 win over St. Lawrence University in the first of two games.

The Huskies of Gorham fell to the University of Wisconsin-Superior 10-2 in five innings in their second game.

In the first game, Sarah Cusack had two hits and an RBI for Southern Maine. Sabrina Sevigny and Stacey Stuart each drove in a run.

Amy Atkins hit a two-run home run for St. Lawrence.

In the second game, Wisconsin-Superior scored six runs through the first two innings to defeat the Huskies.

Cusack hit a double while Kristin Grondin drove in two runs for Southern Maine.

RIC sweeps Bates

At Providence, R.I., Rhode Island College swept a doubleheader from Bates, winning 8-0 in the first game and 10-3 in the second.

In the first game, Jenna Deveines picked up the win for RIC, pitching a three-hit shutout.

Sarah Cullen went five innings for Bates allowing six runs on seven hits.

In the second game, Kelsey Souza had a pair of hits and three RBIs for Rhode Island College.

Stacia Saniuk hit a home run while Val Beckwith had an RBI single for Bates.

Baseball

Mass. Maritime sweeps UMF

At Buzzards Bay, Mass., Massachusetts Maritime took both ends of a doubleheader on Friday over the University of Maine-Farmington, winning 9-4 in the first game and 7-3 in the second.

In the first game, Billy Martin pitched a complete game for Massachusetts Maritime allowing two earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts.

Dan Stefanilo led UMF with two hits and an RBI.

In the second game, Eric Mozelak hit a three-run home run for the winners.

Jared Wales got the start for the Beavers and went four innings.

Suffolk sweeps Southern Maine

At Mesa, Ariz., Nick Carter scored on infield error in the bottom of the seventh inning as Suffolk University of Boston beat the University of Southern Maine 11-10 to complete a doubleheader sweep.

Suffolk won the opener 7-3.

In the first game, Suffolk scored five runs in the first inning to set the tone. Tim Corcoran doubled and singled and Bobby Barrett singled twice, each posting two RBIs.

Reid Jackson scattered 10 hits for the winners.

Chris Burleson tripled and singled to lead the Huskies of Gorham. Eddie Skeffington doubled and singled.

In Game 2, Suffolk erased a 10-6 deficit over the last two innings. Jose Alejandro doubled twice with three RBIs and Nick Martinho had two singles and three RBIs for the winners.

Skeffington hit a solo home run and a double to pace USM, while Burleson tripled and singled with an RBI.
