RUMFORD – NewPage Corp. has begun recalling some employees who were laid off this winter when the company shut down one of its paper-making machines.
The company laid off 23 employees when the No. 11 machine at its Rumford mill was shut down last month.
Mill spokesman Tony Lyons said eight employees have since been called back to work and that others will likely be called back in the weeks and months ahead.
The No. 11 machine, which was the oldest paper machine at the mill, was shut down for good as part of he integration process of the North American operations of Finland-based Stora Enso, which NewPage bought last September.
