SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Senior Eddie Skeffington’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh lifted the University of Southern Maine baseball team to the 9-8 win over Saint John’s of Minnesota Saturday and a twinbill sweep.
The Huskies defeated St. John’s 6-2 in the first game.
In the first game, Anthony D’Alfonso homered and hit two singles for the Huskies. Chris Burleson drove in three runs and Skeffington added two RBIs.
Mike Krempa doubled and singled while driving in two runs for St. John’s.
In the second game, Skeffington had four RBIs with four singles and a triple to lead Southern Maine. D’Alfonso doubled and drove in two runs.
Joe Eiden had a double and a single with two RBIs for the St. John’s.

Salisbury sweeps Saint Joseph’s
At Salisbury, Md., Justin Armiger hit a three-run home run in the first inning to help lift Salisbury University to a 3-1 win in the first game over Saint Joseph’s College of Standish. Salisbury shut out the Monks 9-0 in the second game.
In the first game, Jeff Feigl allowed just one run on two hits and no walks while striking out seven for the Seagulls.
Ben Grant-Roy singled and drove in a run for Saint Joseph’s.
In the second game, Armiger hit two home runs and drove in five runs for Salisbury. Mark Bostwick added a double and two singles with two RBIs.
Luke Enman provided the Monks with both of their hits with a double and a single.

Bates sweeps UM-Presque Isle
At Darien, Conn., Erik Hood hit a two-run home run to help push Bates College to the 19-2 win in Saturday’s first game. The Bobcats also won the second game 9-0.
In the first game, Denis Hogan and Alex Egelson each had two hits for Bates.
In the second game, Brian Mahoney had three hits and drove in four runs for Bates. Hood provided three hits and Alex Maulucci hit safely in two of his three trips to the plate.
Suffolk 12, Colby 4
At Chandler, Ariz., Suffolk University scored four runs in the third inning to take the lead and never looked back as they beat Colby College 12-4 in the Greater Phoenix Invitational Saturday.
Richard Newton had three hits for Colby. John LaMantia tripled and singled with an RBI and Chris Murdock singled twice.

Rhode Island sweeps Bates
At Providence, R.I., Christie Lotti hit a double and two singles while driving in three runs to help push Rhode Island College to the 8-0 shutout win over Bates College in Saturday’s first game. Rhode Island also won the second game 10-3.
In the first game, Laura DeNoncour homered with two RBIs for Rhode Island College and Amanda Perry added three singles.
Stacia Saniuk doubled to pace Bates and Val Beckwith singled twice.
In the second game, Kelsey Souza had three RBIs and two singles for Rhode Island College and Donielle Matton added three singles.
Saniuk hit a solo home run to lead Bates. Jill Cappucci chipped in a triple and a single.

Southern Maine drops two
At Fort Myers, Fla., Bree Crossett homered to ignite a four-run sixth inning to lead SUNY Fredonia to an 8-4 win over the University of Southern Maine in the first game on Saturday. Middlebury College also defeated the Huskies 16-11 in the second game.
In the first game, Adriana Connell doubled with an RBI for SUNY Fredonia and Andrea DeVon drove in two runs.
Sabrina Sevigny homered with two RBIs to lead the Huskies. Kristina Grondin hit two doubles.
In the second game, Kristin Maletsky hit a home run and drove in four runs for Middlebury. Leslie Crawford had two RBIs.
Sarah Susack had three RBIs to pace Southern Maine and Heather Gilman knocked in two runs.

Colby sweeps New Paltz
At Fort Myers, Fla., Alex Essman hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to lift Colby College over SUNY New Paltz in Sunday’s first game. Colby also won the second game in the final inning, 3-2.
In the first game, Essman also hit a solo homer in the first inning for Colby. Carlie Minichino had three hits and two runs scored.
Erin Fitzpatrick tripled for SUNY New Paltz.
In the second game, Colby’s Allyson Cheever scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a single by Minichino. Mollie Puskar hit a run-scoring triple and Christine Gillespie had a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

At Bridgewater, Mass., Patricia Maloney and Shannon Manning each scored three goals as Bridgewater State College defeated Thomas College Saturday.
Katie Weber blocked both shots she faced for 2-1 Bridgewater State.
Ashley French made eight saves on 33 shots for 0-1 Thomas of Waterville.
Men’s lacrosse
Maine Maritime 11, Becker 7
At Castine, Christopher Keiley scored four goals and provided an assist to lead Maine Maritime Academy past Becker College Saturday.
Garrett Lake, Wade Mondoux and Nate Bolduc each scored twice for the 1-1 Mariners. Patrick Jones blocked 12 shots.
Josh Fask scored five times for 0-2 Becker. Peter Fellows provided 14 saves.
Mount Ida 19, Thomas 4
At Newton, Mass., Brett Conley notched four goals at Mount Ida College defeated Thomas College Saturday.
Five players provided two goals for 2-3 Mount Ida. Matt Vernik made 10 saves.
Kolby Peckham led 0-2 Thomas with two goals. Chris Vashon had a goal and an assist and Mike Ross scored. Kevin Averill stopped seven shots.
