FORT MYERS, Fla. – Alex Essman belted two home runs to reach four in four games as Colby College of Waterville rolled to a 14-0 win over Oberlin College in five innings and a 7-1 victory against Alverno College in softball action on Monday.
In the first game, Essman had four hits, including two home runs, and seven RBIs to lead the Mules. Sarah Whitfield, Alaina Clark, Mollie Puskar and Barbara Santos each added two hits.
Brittany Tasi fired a one-hitter, throwing only 37 pitches.
In the second game, the Mules had five straight hits to score four runs in the fourth inning, including a triple from Annie Wilson. Christine Gillespie had two hits and three RBIs while Tory Starr posted two hits.

Southern Maine wins two
At Cape Coral, Fla., Anita Dixon and Sabrina Mills each hit a home run in the first inning as the University of Southern Maine defeated Alverno College 8-5 in the first game at the Gene Cusic Classic.
The Huskies won the second game 9-1 over Oberlin College.
In the first game, Southern Maine of Gorham scored six runs in the second inning, including a two-run single from Tiffany Jordan.
In the second game, Sabrina Sevigny posted three hits and drove in two runs for the Huskies. Joselyn Belanger and Heather Gilman added two RBIs each.
Sarah Deroche pitched a three-hitter for USM.

Colby sweeps D’Youville College
At Chandler, Ariz., Colby College scored 34 runs and had 37 hits Sunday as the Mules coasted to 23-1 and 11-2 victories in a season-opening doubleheader sweep D’Youville College at the Greater Phoenix Invitational.
In the first game, Craig Cooper and Ryan Conlon each posted three hits and three RBIs for Colby of Waterville. John Lerner had three hits and two RBIs while John LaMantia, Dominick Morrill, Colin Riggs, Nick Spillane and Spencer Jacobson each added two hits.
Matt Moore and David Bethoney combined to pitch a two-hitter.
In the second game, Conlon recorded four hits to lead the Mules. Lerner, LaMantia, Morrill and Ken Kaufman added two hits apiece for Colby.
