The University of Maine’s Women in the Curriculum and women’s studies programs will present these events at various sites on UMaine’s Orono campus as part of Women’s History Month.

. “Is There a Jewish Mother in Jewish Folktales?” at 12:15 p.m. today Bangor Room, Memorial Union. Dan Ben Amos, professor at the University of Pennsylvania, is the editor of The Folklore Series at Indiana University Press and senior editor of the award-winning “Mimekor Yisrael: Folktales of Israel.” Sponsored by the Maine Folklife Center.

. “Red Hope: Race, Power and Decolonization Through My Waponahki Lens” at 3:15 p.m. today, Multipurpose Room, Memorial Union. Rebecca Sockbeson, member of the Penobscot Indian Nation and a doctorate degree candidate at the University of Alberta, will share her beliefs and understandings as a Waponahki woman.

. “It’s Not That Simple (Readers’ Theatre)” at 7:30 tonight, Minsky Recital Hall. A performance piece on abuse, with dance, poetry and dramatic scenes. Donations will be accepted to benefit Spruce Run Association and Rape Response Services. Organized by the Safe Campus Project and the School of Performing Arts.

. New books and periodicals concerned with women’s studies, feminism and various aspects of women’s lives will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 27, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, March 28, at 101 Fernald Hall. Publishers’ catalogs and order forms for many of these items also will be available.

. “Germany, Pale Mother” will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 140 Little Hall. This film portrays the life of a young German woman in the aftermath of WWII. It raises questions about gender issues and the moral responsibility of civilians and combatants in war. Imke Schessler-Jandreau, graduate student in communication, will lead the discussion. Chosen by the Student Women’s Association as part of the MPAC Film Series.

. Campus authors of recent books on women and gender issues will be celebrated from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday, March 28, at 101 Fernald Hall.

. The annual Spruce Run chocolate buffet and silent auction will be held 7-9 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Buchanan Alumni House. Tickets are $15 per person. For information, call Spruce Run at 945-5102.

. “Hip Hop: Beyond Beats & Rhymes,” film and discussion, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at 101 Neville Hall. Byron Hurt pays tribute to hip-hop while challenging its exploitation of women, glamorized violence and homophobia. Sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center, Hardy Girls/Healthy Women, and Boys to Men.
