Breakfast benefits Dover-Foxcroft homecoming

People in or traveling to the Dover-Foxcroft area this weekend might want to plan to attend the Annual Maple Sunday Breakfast 7-10 a.m. at the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Station.

The cost of this delicious meal is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors 65 and older and children 10 and younger, and $15 for immediate families of up to six members.

The maple syrup has been donated by Bob’s Sugarhouse, Sherry French wrote, adding that “volunteers from the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club, the Dover-Foxcroft Town Office, the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department and many others help make the breakfast a sweet success.”

This event is one of the major fundraisers benefiting the Shiretown Homecoming Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 3, she wrote.

Another fundraiser is the Community Calendar that is sponsored by local business owners. Groups and organizations can place their meeting and special-event notices in the calendar, which also offers “individuals and families a way to remember and brag about those special dates in the year,” French wrote.

The fee to place an event in the calendar is 75 cents per listing. If you list more than four items, “we can add them for a mere 50 cents per extra listing,” French wrote.

The deadline to be part of the calendar is Tax Day, Tuesday, April 15.

The calendar purchase price is $8. If you want to place an event in the calendar, or if you want to order a calendar, visit the office of radio station WDME or call French at 564-2642.

Here’s a reminder from Bethany Porter of the American Cancer Society in Topsham that if you forgot to order in advance your daffodils for the ACS Daffodil Days Campaign, you can purchase them at Hannaford stores.

Hannaford is selling bouquets of 10 daffodils now through Saturday, March 29, or while supplies last for a $10 donation.

All proceeds from sales of the flowers benefit the ACS.

Amy Allen of St. Joseph Healthcare in Bangor reminds readers that March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month.

In recognition of the month and St. Joseph’s recently expanded endoscopy department, you are invited to attend an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Endoscopy Department of St. Joseph Hospital, 360 Broadway, Bangor.

You will be offered a complete tour of the department and will be guided “through each step of this quick and life-saving outpatient procedure,” Allen wrote.

At the open house you will not only view the equipment and meet the staff, but also will “enjoy healthy refreshments, free giveaways and more,” Allen wrote.

You are asked to enter through the Ambulatory Surgery Unit entrance on Center Street. Call Allen at 262-1724 for information.

From Deb Newcomb we learn that the Kermit Nickerson School Parent Teacher Group is hosting an auction to benefit the purchase of additional playground equipment for the Swanville facility.

The fundraiser begins with a preview and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. “immediately followed by a live auction with Rosey Gerry officiating at 6:30 p.m.,” Newcomb wrote. The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, at the school, 18 Town House Road.

Area merchants and artists are donating items for the fundraiser.

You can bid on heating oil, an oak door, screened gravel, work by local artists, fitness and restaurant certificates and pet care products and services.

Monroe sculptor Forest Hart will offer a reserved item bid, “Trotting Fox,” Newcomb wrote.

She wants people planning to attend to know that “just about everything anyone could possibly want, excluding the kitchen sink,” will be up for bid, “but we do have a bathroom faucet.”

Tables are available to rent for people who would like to participate in the Baby Fair 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Troy Howard Middle School, Lincolnville Avenue (Route 52), Belfast.

Admission is $1 for adults and children are free for the event that benefits the Belfast Public Health Nursing Association.

Tables are $20 each and must be reserved and paid for before the fair.
