OLD TOWN – A school bus driver who was distracted Friday morning by something going on in the back of the bus caused a chain reaction when he failed to see cars stopped in front of him and rear-ended the last vehicle in line on Stillwater Avenue.

The bus, owned by John T. Cyr and Sons was transporting children to Old Town Elementary School shortly after 7:30 a.m. when the driver struck a car driven by Gary Dalrymple, 32, of Old Town.

A few of the children on the bus and Dalrymple were checked at the scene for minor bumps and bruises, but no one was taken to the hospital and the children went on to school.

Dalrymple’s car was considered a total loss, and there was minor damage to the school bus and the other two vehicles Dalrymple was pushed into.
