Levant resident John Chisholm has penned a fine little book that my husband and I both enjoyed reading, “Round Bales: Collected Essays on a Farmer.”
And while Chisholm’s work focuses on certain aspects of farming, it is also about family and life in a small Maine town.
Best of all is the fact that all proceeds from this thoughtful work benefit the Levant Heritage Library.
“Levanters” now living away will enjoy reading the familiar names of its main characters, all of whom are real.
And it should be very rewarding for everyone living in or associated with this small Penobscot County community, to recognize and celebrate the life that the Chisholm family finds so appealing in this special place.
The book is available at the Levant Heritage Library, the Levant town office or BookMarc’s in downtown Bangor. The cost is $15 or $18 postpaid,
If you would like a copy or two, visit one of those facilities or send your check to Jeanne Krause, treasurer, Levant Heritage Library, P.O. Box 1, Levant 04456.
You can also call 884-7764 for information.
The Animal Orphanage, a no-kill shelter serving Old Town and Orono, is hosting a Spring Dance with the Barn Cats 7:30-10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Old Town Elks Hall.
Shelter president Roberta Fowler reports all proceeds benefit the care of homeless animals awaiting adoption.
Tickets are $8 for couples or $5 for singles, and a cash bar and refreshments will be available.
You can dance or not, but you are sure to enjoy Elvis impersonator Joey Loring who will be the opening act for the fundraiser.
Although none of us really needs reminding, Fowler points out that with the increase in prices, the cost of caring and feeding homeless pets increases as well, and your support is more important now than ever.
