Former University of Maine standouts Peter Metcalf and Josh Soares, who are teammates on the Alaska Aces, were selected to the East Coast Hockey League first team by the league’s coaches. Another former Black Bear, the Florida Everblades’ Derek Damon, was chosen to the second team. In addition, Soares was selected to the league’s all-rookie team.
Left winger Soares, who graduated from Maine last year after earning All-Hockey East second-team honors, leads the Aces in scoring and is tied for fourth in the league with 81 points on 36 goals and 45 assists in 59 games.
Metcalf, a former second-team All-American and first-team All-Hockey East choice, is the top scoring defenseman in the ECHL with 60 points on 7 goals and 53 assists in 60 games. Metcalf, who graduated in 2002, was a first-team All-ECHL choice last year and a second-teamer two years ago.
Bangor native Damon, a second-year pro, is 10th in the league in scoring with 72 points (24 goals, 48 assists) in 49 games. He is a center.
