Although photographs are not part of this column, I do appreciate Phyllis Young including one with her e-mail about the Ellsworth High School International Club’s International Potluck Dinner: A Celebration of International Culture, which is 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, April 11, in the EHS cafeteria.
From that photograph, I can see that anyone who does attend this special event will be thoroughly delighted by the presentation of “the area’s Vietnamese students, who will dance in traditional costume,” Young wrote.
Those students, and other “hosted students, are working to provide entertainment from their culture, too. This is sure to be a great family evening,” added Young, who is the Ellsworth AFS Chapter treasurer.
People attending this special event are asked to bring a dish to share, and Young reminds you that “each year, our exchange students cook, with their host families, to prepare some wonderful dishes … so the food is always fun.”
There is no admission charge to attend, just the request that you bring an edible contribution.
“Our high school has had a very strong AFS program and an international dinner for many, many years,” Young said, “but we also have students here on other programs, so we decided to broaden the evening to include” all of those students.
This is a better-late-than-never notice, but you are invited to hear Mike Pullen discuss “A City Reconstructed: The Aftermath of the April 30, 1911 Fire,” that destroyed Bangor, when the Bangor Nature Club meets at 1 p.m. today, at First Congregational Church of Brewer, 35 Church St.
BNC director Ella Waitt wrote that “we invite all who would like to hear Pullen’s presentation” to attend.
“He is a board member of Keep Bangor Beautiful and is involved with Keeping Green Spaces and Bangor’s Linking Trails Systems.”
Here’s a reminder from Karen Reilly and Eastern Maine Community College Friends of the Library that you are cordially invited to attend its Books2Eat fundraiser 4-6 tonight, in Rangeley Hall on Sylvan Road on the EMCC campus in Bangor.
Admission is $10, and you can cast your vote for the best edible book in these categories: chef, culinary student, under 12, a Stephen King title and everyone else.
Local favorite volunteer auctioneer Sue McKay will auction off the professional entries, with the proceeds benefiting Friends of the Library.

RSVPs are not required, Clayton wrote, adding that “staff from all departments will be available to answer questions about applying and enrolling at EMCC; applying for financial aid; attending classes at our off-campus centers; transfer options and on-campus housing.”
Department presentations and demonstrations of shop-lab areas, as well as tours of the campus, will be offered.
For information, visit www.emcc.edu and click on admission and registration to locate the open house link, or call the admissions office, 800-286-9357 or 974-4680.
