BANGOR – Two toys that were sold last fall at the Discovery Museum recently have been identified as posing risks: one for choking and the other for exposure to lead, the museum warned Tuesday.

The first item is Tot Tower blocks from eeBoo. Isolated incidents have been reported involving the plastic film laminate being peeled off. Although no report of injury has been received, the company is concerned this could present a choking risk to small children.

The second item is also from eeBoo and is its 8.5-inch-by- 11.5-inch sketchbook, available in eight styles: “Drawing Birds”; “Nature”; “Garden Party”; “Up in the Tree”; “Nemo with Princess in Balloon”; “Butterflies”; and “Princess and Butterflies.” An earlier, larger version, 10 inches by 14 inches, of “Princess and Butterflies” also is being recalled. Safety tests that eeBoo conducted indicate some of the colored coils on these products may contain higher than acceptable lead levels.

Although no report of injury or illness has been received, eeBoo has voluntarily notified the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and has agreed upon a course of action to remedy the situation.

Note that sketchbooks with plain metal coils and other styles of sketchbooks with colored coils are not affected, and are not part of the recall.
