The Maine Department of Health and Human Services has been awarded a grant of $1,396,574 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Sens. Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins announced Wednesday.

The funding will come through the Ryan White Grants Program and will provide Maine DHHS with funding to improve the quality and availability of care for low-income, uninsured and underinsured individuals and families affected by human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV.

“We are pleased to see that this funding will be going to Maine,” Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. “This funding will help provide improved care to individuals hardest hit by being diagnosed with HIV.”
