STANDISH – Sabrina Mills and India Lowe scored the tying and winnings runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Salem State fielding error to give the University of Southern Maine an 8-7 win in the first game of a softball doubleheader Thursday.
The Huskies of Gorham also won the second game 12-2 in five innings.
In the first game, Lowe hit three singles to lead the Huskies and Sarah Deroche earned the win in relief to improve her record to 3-0.
Amanda Scola hit a home run and two singles for Salem State. Jess Baird homered and doubled to knock in two runs.
In the second game, Anita Dixon had a home run and two singles to drive in four runs for Southern Maine. Deroche drove in two runs and Kristina Grondin took the win and had two RBIs.
Baird and Katelyn Doherty both had an RBI and two singles for Salem State.

Thomas, UNE split
At Biddeford, Ashley DePasquale hit a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Katie Carroll as the University of New England notched a 3-2 win over Thomas College of Waterville in the second game of a doubleheader.
The Terriers won the opener 4-3.
In the first game, Kim Denbow tripled and singled to drive in two runs for Thomas. Trista Morin had a double and a single with two RBIs.
Katie Morin had two singles and two RBIs to lead the Nor’easters and Rachel Boutin tripled.
In the second game, DePasquale tripled and singled with two RBIs for U-New England. Lisa Baillargeon scored two runs while hitting a triple and a single.
Mallor Blakney and Julia Lorenz each singled twice for Thomas. Trista Morin knocked in a run and Denbow doubled.

At Salem, Mass., the University of Southern Maine scored eight runs in the second inning and cruised to victory over Salem State College.
Eddie Skeffington homered, doubled and singled and drove in three runs to pace the Huskies. Jordan Berthiaume doubled and singled with four RBIs and Josh Stowell added a double and two singles with two RBIs.
Ryan Kane hit a double and a single to drive in both runs for Salem State.
