An Eddington man almost made it home Thursday night, but fell asleep at the wheel less than 100 yards from his house, went off the road and totaled his car.

Anthony Kenniston, 24, drove into a stand of trees and knocked down a telephone pole guy wire around 7:15 p.m. near Monument Drive on Route 178, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jesse Gee said Friday morning.

The airbags in Kenniston’s 1994 Buick four-door deployed and he suffered a split lip. Kenniston was alone in the vehicle.

Gee later discovered that Kenniston had a suspended driver’s license and issued him a summons for the violation. Kenniston is expected to appear May 22 at 3rd District Court on the charge.

Kenniston’s injuries were evaluated at the scene by Eddington rescue and he was allowed to return home. State Police and Eddington Fire also assisted at the scene. (Aimee Dolloff, BDN)

An out-of-control argument early Friday morning landed an Orono woman in jail.

Monique St. Pierre, 21, was arguing around 2 a.m. with her boyfriend in front of the bus stop on Main Street in Orono.

Orono police Officer Seth Burnes stopped and issued disorderly conduct warnings to both for their behavior, Orono Police Capt. Josh Ewing read Friday from the report.

The couple called a taxi, but as they waited St. Pierre became very upset and continued to argue with Burnes about the warning.

“She got angrier and angrier, and started to walk past Burnes and then got in his face,” Ewing said.

The officer motioned her toward the taxi, but St. Pierre continued to push toward Burnes even more.

Eventually, the officer had to move her away and St. Pierre “smacked his arm away,” Ewing said.

Burnes attempted to arrest her.

“She dropped to her knees and started screaming,” Ewing said, noting that she was intoxicated. “She resisted all the way into the cruiser.”

Orono Police Sgt. Scott Wilcox assisted by keeping the woman’s boyfriend from becoming involved.

St. Pierre was taken to Penobscot County Jail and charged with assault and disorderly conduct. An additional charge for refusing to submit to arrest or detention likely will be added, Ewing said. She had posted bail and been released by Friday afternoon. (Aimee Dolloff, BDN)

An intoxicated man was taken into custody at gunpoint after he wandered into the Penobscot Valley Country Club around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

Brian James, 21, first interacted with police when he was walking near the intersection of Main Street and Kelley Road, according to police reports. James told the police he didn’t have any cash to pay for a cab ride home, which police later determined was in Bangor, not Presque Isle as noted on his identification.

A short time later, the same officers received a report of an alarm going off at the country club.

When they arrived, they saw James inside the entrance trying to turn off the alarm by pressing buttons on a nearby keypad. It’s unclear why he went into the building, but he entered through an open door that was supposed to be locked.

Sgt. Scott Wilcox and Sgt. Scott Scripture ordered James out at gunpoint. He cooperated and lay down on the ground so he could be handcuffed.

No one was injured, no property was damaged and nothing was taken.

James was taken to Penobscot County Jail but had posted bail and been released Friday afternoon. (Aimee Dolloff, BDN)
