SOUTH PORTLAND – The University of Southern Maine Huskies of Gorham rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a three-run sixth inning en route to a 4-2 victory over Eastern Connecticut State in the first game of a college baseball doubleheader at Wainright Field Friday.
The visitors came back to win game two 9-6.
In the opener, Mark Schmidt earned the win in relief, pitching 5-plus innings of one-run, two-hit ball while striking out four.
Josh Mackey drove in two runs with a single and Josh Stowell added an RBI double for Southern Maine.
In the second game, Travis Bass knocked a two-run double and Shawn Gilblair an RBI double as the visiting Warriors jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on from there.
Ryan Pike’s grand slam keyed a five-run eighth inning for Southern Maine.

At Nashua, N.H., Aaron Freedman hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to give Daniel Webster College the win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Freedman had two singles and three RBIs for Daniel Webster. Jared Staples tripled and singled with a sac fly and Joe Tamulonis had two singles and two RBIs.
Shane Dupuis paced UM-Presque Isle with a triple, double and single, three stolen bases and five RBIs. Tyler Delaney tripled twice and scored two runs. A.J. Pennartz had three singles and Ronald Spencer doubled twice.

Elms sweeps Husson
At Bangor, Michael Bieber allowed four hits and one walk while striking out four through seven innings to give Elms College the 1-0 shutout win over Husson College in the second game of a doubleheader.
Elms took the first game 6-3.
In the first game, Hector Roche homered for Elms and Justin Jacobs had a triple and three RBIs.
Ethan Guerette hit a home run and knocked in two runs to lead Husson. Chris Maguire and Brian McGinley each singled twice.
In the second game, Brendan Cordeiro drove in the game’s only run on a sacrifice fly for Elms. Joe Ferry tripled and singled.
Ryan Arseneault allowed one run, five hits and two walks while striking out nine for Husson. Tom Crews, Nick Arthers, Corey Cushing and McGinley singled.

At Waterville, Tim Kiely tossed seven innings and struck out 10 while allowing no walks improve to 16-0 as Trinity College defeated Colby College.
Kiely has compiled 39 strikeouts while walking none in 42 innings pitched thus far this season.
Kent Graham hit two home runs and James Wood added a grand slam for Trinity. Sean Killeen hit a two-run home run in the first inning.
Spencer Jacobscon hit a double and a single and drove in a run to lead Colby. Ken Kaufman hit an RBI single while Craig Cooper and Ryan Conlon singled and scored.

Tufts 7-11, Colby 1-0
At Waterville, Christy Tinker hit a two-run home run and a single to help lift Tufts University over Colby College 7-1 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Tufts shut out the Mules 11-0 in the second game.
In the first game, Danielle Lopez hit a double and a single and drove in two runs for Tufts. Samantha Kuhles singled three times.
Colby’s Christine Gillespie singled and scored in the first inning on a double by Alex Essman. Annie Wilson singled for the Mules’ other hit.
In the second game, Casey Sullivan homered and doubled to drive in three runs for Tufts. Tinker added another home run.
Alaina Clark, Lizzi Fort and Essman singled for Colby.
