LEWISTON – Brewer’s Sara Defilipp allowed only two runs while scattering nine hits to lead UMaine-Farmington to a 3-2 softball victory over Bates in the first game of a doubleheader Monday.

Milford’s Liz Bergeron turned in another solid pitching effort for the Beavers to lead them to a 7-3 victory and sweep in the second game.

McKell Barnes hit a solo home run to lead UMF in the first game while Lauren Overlock of Belfast and Erin Porter of Bangor each chipped in with two hits.

Val Beckwith cranked a solo homer for Bates, which rallied in the seventh but had a runner thrown out at the plate by left fielder Overlock to end the game.

In the second game, Bergeron scattered 10 hits while not walking a batter for UMF. Megan Goodrow paced the Bobcats with three hits and three RBIs while Overlock chipped in with two hits.

Stacia Saniuk homered for Bates and Beckwith had three hits.

Bay Path sweeps Maine Maritime

At Longmeadow, Mass., Kristal Cormier drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a single to left and pitched all eight innings to lift Bay Path College to the 6-5 win over Maine Maritime Academy of Castine in the first game of Sunday’s North Atlantic Conference doubleheader.

Bay Path also took the nightcap 14-7.

In the first game, Jess Priestly hit a two-run single in the fourth inning for Bay Path.

Brittany Hunt hit a two-run double in the seventh to tie it at 5-5 for Maine Maritime.

In the second game, Sarah Gates hit two doubles and a single and drove in three runs for Bay Path.

Mallery Stanley homered, doubled and singled, scored three runs and had three RBIs to lead the Mariners.

At Lewiston, Nick Cloutier hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth to give Thomas College of Waterville the lead for good en route to the win.

Jared Fieldsend added a three-run homer in the ninth while Tom Desjardins added a solo shot for the Terriers.

Denis Hogan had a pair of hits and an RBI while Rob Patton hit an RBI single for Bates.
