GORHAM – Kristina Grondin racked up four hits and drove in five runs over two games to lead the University of Southern Maine softball team to a doubleheader sweep of the University of Massachusetts Boston on Tuesday.

The Huskies won the first game 11-3 and the second 8-2.

In the first game, Grondin hit a three-run home run to put USM up 8-0 after two innings.

Sarah Deroche tallied a pair of hits for the Huskies.

In the second game, Deroche posted two hits and two RBIs to lead Southern Maine. Anita Dixon and Grondin added two hits apiece.

At Lewiston, Leah Citrin hit a three-run home run in the first inning to propel Bates College by Thomas College of Waterville.

Christina Knobel notched a complete-game victory, allowing one earned run on eight hits for the Bobcats.

Nicole Chinnock and Sarah Estes each tallied three hits for Thomas.

Monks sweep Daniel Webster

At Standish, Christy Wezowicz pitched seven innings, allowing no runs on five hits, as Saint Joseph’s College shut out Daniel Webster College 2-0 in the second game of a doubleheader.

The Monks won the first game 13-5.

In the first game, Cat DeSimone led Saint Joseph’s with three hits and an RBI. Aly Ludwig tallied two hits and two RBIs while Liz Jordan and Anna Willis each posted a pair of hits for the Monks.

In the second game, Liddy VanderLinden had two hits while Renee Leach posted a hit and drove in a run for Saint Joseph’s.

At Gorham, Andrew Stacy of Denmark had three singles for three RBIs and pitched a scoreless inning of relief to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies past Bowdoin College.

Eddie Skeffington, Ryan Gaffney and Jordan Berthiaume each had three singles. Gaffney and Skeffington had two RBIs apiece.

Matt Ruane had a double, a single and the only RBI for the Polar Bears.
