Beavers sweep Mariners

CASTINE – Lauren Overlook went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs as the University of Maine-Farmington softball team beat Maine Maritime Academy 5-2 en route to sweeping a NAC softball doubleheader Wednesday.

The Beavers took the nightcap 7-1.

In the first game, Sarah Defilipp picked up the win for the Beavers, giving up 10 hits and two runs over eight innings.

Hillary Arris led Maine Maritime with two hits including a triple while Brittany Hunt had a hit and an RBI.

In the second game, McKell Barnes led the way for UMF posting two hits and an RBI. Liz Bergeron got the win for the Beavers giving up five hits and striking out six.

Amanda Barker paced the Lady Mariners with a pair of hits.

Thomas sweeps Husson

At Bangor, Nicole Smith pitched a complete game, allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts to lead Thomas College past Husson 5-1 in the first game of a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader.

Thomas completed the sweep with a 5-4 victory in the second game.

In the first game, Kristy Clements led the Terriers with four hits and an RBI. Smith tallied two hits and two RBIs while Jen Higgins posted two hits.

Shawna Bell had a pair of hits for Husson while Jenika Kelley drove in the lone run.

In the second game, Higgins had three hits for Thomas. Clements added two hits and an RBI for the Terriers.

Kelley led Husson with two hits and two RBIs. Megan Richard, Jenny Rollins and Bell each had two hits for the Eagles.

Saint Joseph’s, Thomas split

At Standish, Ian Lee posted two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs to lead Saint Joseph’s College by Thomas College of Waterville 8-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.

The Terriers won the second game 7-5.

In the first game, Ben Grant-Roy and Dustin Spiller each had a hit and an RBI for the Monks.

Kyle Dorr and Andrew Pooler combined for the four-hit shutout.

Nick Shauwecker had a double for Thomas.

In the second game, Mike Chamard tallied four hits for the Terriers. Jared Fieldsend, Nick Cloutier and Cory Estes each had two hits while Mike Susa and Scott Geel each drove in two runs.

Eric LaBatte paced Saint Joseph’s with three hits and an RBI.

At Waterville, Anthony D’Alfonso had four hits, including a three-run home run, and drove in five runs while Chris Burleson had a two-run shot, three runs scored and five RBIs as Southern Maine of Gorham rolled.

Eddie Skeffington added three hits and scored three runs while Greg Holmes had a couple of hits for the Huskies.

John LaMantia paced Colby with a two-run home run.

At Nashua, N.H., Josh McAllister’s unassisted goal with 55 seconds left in overtime gave Maine Maritime Academy the victory.

The game-winner was set up by a goal by teammate Garrett Lake of Farmington with six seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

Lake finished with two goals and an assist to lead 5-5 Maine Maritime, while Patrick Jones made nine saves in goal for the Mariners.

Brian Abrahamson led 3-6 Daniel Webster with two goals and an assist, while Eagles goalie Chris Leyland made 10 saves.
