Benefit bingo to help with volunteer trip

OLD TOWN – A Longaberger Basket Bingo event this weekend will assist University of Maine nursing student Lindsay Ford in raising the $4,000 she needs to travel to the Dominican Republic this summer with the International Student Volunteers program.

Projects to be undertaken by the students range from teaching children English to building schools to painting and doing light construction.

Ford, 20, who lives in Old Town, will help distribute food and other items to those who need them and assist with children’s summer camp and school programs.

Community activities will include helping with garbage cleanup and housing construction.

The Longaberger Basket Bingo will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Knights of Columbus in Old Town. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets are just $10 and all are welcome to attend.

There will be regular bingo games, a blackout game, a 50-50 raffle, door prizes and a bake sale.

Participants may purchase tickets in advance by calling Lindsay Ford at 745-1227 or Sheila Wood at 942-5850, or they may purchase them at the door.
