Three accused of burglarizing rubber bands from BDN car

Three males may be hoping Maine law has some elasticity when they appear in court on car burglary charges.

Eric Warman, 19, Robert J. Hazelton, age unknown, both of Bangor, and a 16-year-old Brewer boy were charged Wednesday with burglary to a motor vehicle after Bangor police caught them with three large bags of rubber bands a few blocks from the Bangor Daily News.

A visitor to a Lincoln Street residence called police about 10:40 p.m. and reported that he had seen three males take something out of an unlocked car in the upper parking lot at the BDN.

The newspaper parking lot has entrances on Buck and Lincoln streets.

The witness told police that the trio had tried to open several car doors without success on Lincoln Street and in the parking lot. They took something out of an unlocked 2003 Chevy Impala in the parking lot before cutting through yards and heading toward Larkin Street, leaving a trail of rubber bands, according to police.

Officers Tim Shaw and Shawn Green reportedly stopped three males at Sidney and Lincoln streets who matched the description given to police of the burglars.

The men are scheduled to appear in 3rd District Court in Bangor on May 22. The boy is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in Bangor on June 2.

The bags of rubber bands, valued at $15 total, were returned to the newspaper that same evening, according to police. (Judy Harrison, BDN)
